Chronic Fatigue & Immune Disorders Research and Treatment Center (Chronic Fatigue Center) is the brainchild of Dr. Nancy Klimas. After more than 20 years in clinical practice and research in the field of immunology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, she decided it was time to do more. It was time to branch out, expand her practice, train more doctors and reach more patients.
The Chronic Fatigue Center, located in South Florida is a result of that thinking. This clinic is dedicated expanding the care and treatment available to patients suffering with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and related illnesses. Using her proven methodology and techniques, Dr. Klimas will train doctors to listen to patients and treat this complex illness.
We welcome new and returning patients to our clinic. Unlike most medical facilities and their seven minute appointments, the Chronic Fatigue Center will provide an extensive assessment of the patient (approximately 1 hour) and then create a customized treatment plan. The assessment templates and treatment plans will follow the protocols created by Dr. Klimas. Patients will be seen by a Klimas-trained Nurse Practitioner with chart review and consultation by Dr. Klimas.
The Chronic Fatigue Center welcomes patients from the south Florida area and from out of town. We are happy to assist out of town patients with suggestions on hotels, travel and transportation to and from the clinic. While we cannot make those arrangements for you, we will do our best to assist you and make your stay as pleasurable as possible.
Nancy Klimas, MD, Medical Director
After more than twenty years in the field as a clinician, researcher, leader, advocate and educator, Dr. Nancy Klimas decided it was time to do even more. She decided that the only way to see more patients and train more doctors was to open a nationwide network of clinics that would take seriously both the treatment of patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) but also begin to fill the void of trained clinicians by training them herself. These clinics would follow the methodologies created by Dr. Klimas in her current clinic, using solid, evidenced- based medicine to treat this unique population.
A leader in the field of Immunology and an expert in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Dr. Klimas is the immediate past President of the International Association for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. A Professor of Medicine, Psychology, Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, Dr. Klimas is principal investigator of one of the three National Institutes of Health sponsored CFS Research Centers. At the University of Miami, Dr. Klimas leads a multidisciplinary research team representing the fields of immunology, autonomic medicine, neuroendocrinology, behavioral psychology, rheumatology, nutrition, and exercise physiology.
The Chronic Fatigue & Immune Disorders Research and Treatment Center will utilize the expertise of Dr. Klimas, Chief Medical Officer, their team of experts in the field and their doctors to use the latest scientific breakthroughs in therapeutics to provide comprehensive diagnostics and treatment plans for their patients. The integration of research, diagnostics and therapeutics within an extremely patient oriented clinic will help optimize treatments best suited for the patient's disease type and avoid potential misdiagnosis or under-treatment due to a general or limited approach for treatment of the conditions.
